Welcome to Bedrock Play

At Bedrock Play, we believe that child-led PLAY helps lay the foundational bedrock of childhood development - physically, cognitively and emotionally. Our mission is to support children through hosting play-focused programs and camps while also supporting adults (parents, caretakers, educators) in understanding the importance of play and learning how to foster it in children’s lives.  

Kids love coming to Bedrock!

We provide a variety of programs for kids of different ages throughout the year, all of which enrich and support a child as they develop the foundational skills that they will use for life: gross and fine motor skills, sensory integration, executive functioning, social-emotional learning and more. Playing in the woods during all four seasons and in all weather provides countless opportunities to develop tolerance, resilience and a connection to nature. 

SCHOOL-YEAR PROGRAMS
allow children to join us once or twice a week from September to May. These programs are often supplements to traditional schooling or homeschooling.

SUMMER CAMPS
run all summer and are the perfect fit for kids to get a sampling of the magic of Bedrock Play. Camps are available for children ages 3-12 years old.

Outside of our direct programs, we also offer Field Trips for local schools as well as 1:1 Coaching and Group Workshops for adults to learn more about how to incorporate and foster Play into children’s lives.

Bedrock Play is the vision of our founder and lead teacher Beth Wilkins. As a parent, educator, and Occupational Therapist, she has a deep appreciation for the power of play in a child’s life. She has been distressed to see how little play she sees in her neighborhood, in schools, and even in OT settings and believes that more exposure to outdoor play could proactively prevent many of the disorders we are seeing in our children today. So she founded Bedrock Play, a place where children can gather for “old fashioned” play, completely outdoors, and with plenty of materials to spark creativity. She is now joined by a team of wonderful teachers and occupational therapists. We also welcome Parent Volunteers as well as Occupational Therapy Field Students. We love our team and think you will too!

Our Bedrock Campus

We feel incredibly fortunate to have found the perfect campus for Bedrock Play, with plenty of trees, animals and plants all nestled on top of solid bedrock. Located in Gorham, Maine just thirty minutes from downtown Portland, our campus is a wonderland for kids to let their imaginations run wild, enhance their skill sets, and experience uninterrupted hours of play with other children.
